NO REGRETS?

Happy New Year!

Some of you may like to make New Year’s Resolutions at a time like this and some of you are finding, on this first week of January 2024, that you have already broken your resolutions!  So, do you just put off trying at this point and tell yourself “I’ll pick this list up again on December 31, 2024?”

Well, that’s one way to do it.  I would like to suggest a more effective, longer-lasting method called No Regrets.  This method has been effective for our family, especially in making life-changing decisions.  The idea comes from a coaching program aptly named The Strategic Coach.  We were provided with a form (writing something down on paper gives your thoughts/desires more commitment), but you can create your own format as well with the same idea.  The basic questions include:

  1.  At the end of my life, what actions will I regret not taking?
  2. How can I make it possible to complete those actions in my lifetime?
  3. What time frame can I establish to complete these actions?

You can list as many “No Regrets” items as come to mind.  The next important step is for all family members/those people you share your life with to complete this same exercise.  Then, sit down with them for an open, honest discussion about how you all can help one another make your list work!

For my husband and me, our most life-changing personal “No Regrets” experience came about twelve years ago when we chose to move from the West Coast to the Mid-West to be closer to many family members.  This involved a re-organization of our work and travel schedule and thus, our life schedule.  It has enabled us to create more separation of work and free time, build our dream home, spend more quality time with family, find a new church home, and develop new and additional friendships.

For you, maybe it is taking that next step and committing to a relationship on a more personal and permanent level.  Or maybe it is committing to that next education degree? Or seeking out a new work opportunity? Or developing a new support system for a personal interest?

The beginning of a new year is a positive time to list your No Regrets and to develop a plan to move forward!  Why not try it today?

“I suggest that you become obsessed about the things you want; otherwise, you are going to spend a lifetime being obsessed with making up excuses as to why you didn’t get the life you wanted.”

Budget Form

“If you measure something, you can understand it. If you understand it, you can control it, and if you can control it, you can improve it.” The same holds true in your monthly budgeting.

The reality is that it is nearly impossible to complete & follow a monthly budget without improving your overall financial position. There are several reasons for this, so I would challenge you to do this.

First, just developing a budget for yourself will raise your awareness of what you have for revenue or income sources and then also boost your cognizance of how much you are spending each month. Next, you will come to grips with the reality of one of three facts. Either you need to boost your income sources, reduce your outgoing expenditures or, thank goodness, if you have more income than expenses, you can then save some money. Of course, this is fantastic! You just need to determine where you will store or invest those extra funds each month…
