Do you ever find that the more time you have, the easier it is to waste? Maybe that’s just me, but it seems, when a person stays home for a whole day, wouldn’t you think we would be able to get so many more things done? And yet, we think we have extra time, so we watch a TV show, take a nap, or work in the yard, still planning to get the same work projects done that day that were originally scheduled. Well, it hasn’t been working out so well thus far.
My issue here is FOCUS. So here is what my family and I have found helpful.
- Plan my week and my day. List all the items, projects, tasks I would like to complete for the week, then choose the best day for each one.
- Assign times to the tasks, projects and ‘other stuff’ that I want to include in that day to feel accomplished. Even include thinking time!
- Share this plan and the times with other family members in the house. Encourage them to do the same. By sharing, everyone can coordinate their quiet time or alone time as well as the time when they would like help with a ‘family hands on’ project. You might even want to post this plan somewhere in your home so that it is visible to everyone.
- Stick with the plan!
- Adjust! If some task or project takes longer than originally thought, stop and readjust. Reassessing your plan is not a bad thing. Especially when you realize that an item could be better done another day when you are fresh instead of trying to wrap it up at the end of the day.
