Recently, I was reading Brian Tracy’s book The 32 Unbreakable Laws of Money and Success. No matter how many years I have worked on goal setting, I am always interested in reading more about it to see if there is anything additional I can learn. What he said surprised me and disappointed me.
“It is astonishing how many people work long and hard to achieve a goal and then, at the last minute, sometimes at 95 percent of the way through, they start to make excuses, back off, get sidetracked or take a vacation. But they do not follow through and complete that one task or goal that would make a major difference in their lives.”
Wow! How easy it is to develop that habit of procrastination and incompletion! The important point to this is to set goals and by learning to do this, it unleashes the personal power to take control and accomplish those goals!
Here is a refresher on Tracy’s Seven Step Goal Setting Formula:
- Decide Exactly What You Want (clarity).
- Write It Down (write it down, write it down).
- Set a Deadline.
- Make a Checklist.
- Organize Your List by Sequence & Priority.
- Take Action on Your List.
- Keep Going! (do something every day to get you closer to your goal).
Then Tracy suggests starting every day by writing your top 10 goals just for that day (without going back to the previous day.)
Try this for 30 days, make it a habit, and become the Primary Participant in your own life!
